Teheran: the façade of the residence of the Italian Ambassador becomes the backdrop for street artists

Two street artists, one Italian and one Iranian, will exhibit on the façade of the residence of the Italian Ambassador in Teheran for a year. This project, called “Urban Art Unites”, opened with the work of Paolo Bordino (known as PAO) and the Iranian Mehdi Ghadyanloo, who is the author of many murals in Teheran. Thus, for the occasion, the façade of the residence of the Italian Ambassador in Teheran was transformed into an outdoor canvas incorporating two separate works conceived to dovetail to reinterpret the age-old intense cultural ties between Italy and Iran through the vanguard language and forms of street art. The works will be on display and visible to the public for two months and will then be replaced by two new works by another two Italian and Iranian artists. The process will continue in this way, displaying two new works every two months, until the project closes in September 2020.

“The ‘URBAN ART UNITES’ Project – said Italian Ambassador Giuseppe Perrone when opening the exhibition – puts together Iranian and Italian artists, engaging them in a 12-month-long artistic adventure to express a common sense of belonging and a unitary vision of the world, of nature and of interpersonal relationships through the creative language of urban art, bearing witness to the universal value of art and its message of brotherhood and solidarity among people.” He concluded: “Today, artistically speaking, Teheran is an exceptionally vivacious city and therefore the natural venue for an initiative of this scope and significance.”
