Exhibitions, lectures, concerts, virtual theatrical performances promoted by illustrious exponents of Russian culture, not only in Moscow, but in the entire territory of the Federation. The numerous and important initiatives that Russian cultural institutions have dedicated to Italy during the very difficult months of the Covid-19 epidemic “are a touching demonstration of attention, interest and solidarity towards our severely hit country,” the Ambassador of Italy to the Russian Federation, Pasquale Terracciano, has stressed. Tributes – he has continued – which “represent a further confirmation of the existence of a very strong cultural link between Italy and Russia, which has been increasingly consolidated over the years, through cultural exchanges of the highest level”.
The Italian Embassy in Moscow has therefore decided to collect the most significant initiatives in a special section of its website, “Russian culture for Italy”: from “Hermitage: tribute to Italy”, ten virtual visits in Italian dedicated to the Italian collections preserved in the museum in St. Petersburg, to the lessons on Borromini by the director of the Schusev Museum; from the Concert of the Red Army Choir to support Italy to the distance readings of the Decameron by Boccaccio, organized by the Perm Theatre.
“There is no doubt – Ambassador Terracciano has continued – that, in such a difficult moment of our history, the cultural and creative sector is called more than others to give its contribution to interpret the present and imagine the future after the pandemic. This moment of crisis gives us the opportunity to relaunch the role of cultural diplomacy as an integral part of foreign policy and the Italian presence in the world”.
