Also, in Croatia, which holds the Presidency of the European Union, on Saturday 9 May, the celebrations for Europe Day were held via social and video.
Broad visibility was given to the role of Italy. Joining an initiative organized by the Representation of the European Commission in the country, the Embassy and the Consulate General in Rijeka involved the students of the Italian High School in Rijeka, who spoke about emotions, fears and hopes in these difficult times, emphasizing the importance of the sense of the European community and its solidarity.
In addition, the local press gave ample resonance to the memory of the 1990 edition of Eurovision, which took place in Zagreb and was won by Italy with a song, “Together: 1992”, sung by Toto Cutugno who praised the future Treaty of Maastricht and celebrated the common future in the sign of the values of a united Europe. Precisely in memory of this historic moment, during the celebrations the population of the city of Sisak spontaneously sang the notes of the Italian singer-songwriter’s songs in the city centre.
