The Italian Cultural Institute in Hong Kong wanted to celebrate the centenary of Federico Fellini’s birth with a complete retrospective of his films, an exhibition and a concert with music by Nino Rota from the most iconic films of the Italian director. Organised in cooperation with The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society and supported by the Consulate General of Italy in Hong Kong, the FELLINI 100 programme will present 24 films, most of them digitally restored by Luce Cinecittà, Cineteca di Bologna and Cineteca Nazionale.

Six of Fellini’s most famous masterpieces will be presented at the 44th edition of the Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF44), to be held from 18th to 31st August 2020, including the director’s four Oscar-winning works for the best foreign language film: La Strada (1954); Le notti di Cabiria (1957), for which Giulietta Masina was rewarded as the best female interpreter at the Cannes Film Festival; 8 1⁄2 (1963) and Amarcord (1973). To complete the programme are La Dolce Vita (1960), winner of the Palme d’Or and Rome (1972). The Hong Kong International Film Festival will also host an exhibition of photographs, rare posters and handmade drawings by Fellini, courtesy of the Cineteca di Bologna, as well as a concert of the memorable soundtracks written by Nino Rota for Fellini’s films, which will be directed by Lorenzo Antonio Iosco. The FELLINI 100 programme will last until the end of the year with the screening of the remaining eighteen films of the director in two bimonthly editions from September to December 2020.
