For next 04 October the Embassy of Italy in Algeria and the Italian Cultural Institute of Algiers are organising a seminar dedicated to the collaboration between UNHCR and Algeria in the implementation of Objective 16 of the 2030 Agenda (relating to peace, solid justice and institutions) on the theme “Refugee protection as an instrument of peace and justice”. The event, to take place at the Italian Cultural Institute, will deal specifically with the support Italy has given on this matter to both institutions.
In attendance will be Giovanni Pugliese, Ambassador of Italy in Algeria; Antonia Grande, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Algiers; Agostino Mulas, Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Algeria; and Samuel Marie-Fanon, Head of the Humanitarian Office of the European Commission in Algeria.
The seminar will take place at the same time as the Italian Festival of Sustainable Development, now in its 5th edition; this is the largest Italian initiative to raise awareness and to mobilise citizens, the young generations, businesses, associations, and institutions on the issues of economic, social and environmental sustainability, spreading the culture of sustainability and achieving a cultural and political change that enables Italy to implement the United Nations 2030 Agenda and achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This year too, the collaboration between the Festival and MAECI (the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation) continues with the aim of spreading the messages of the event abroad by involving the Italian diplomatic offices of the Italian Cultural Institutes. The Festival is organised by the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS), a network of more than 300 Italian civil society organisations on environmental, economic and social sustainability issues.
