Young Italian illustrators on exhibition in China

An exhibition inaugurated a few days ago in Dujiangyan (Chengdu), organised in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy in Chongqing and entitled “Italian Excellences : the new generation of Italian illustrators for children”, was attended by the Vice Consul of Italy, Adriana Lori.

It presents works created with manual, digital, or mixed techniques by twenty young Italian illustrators chosen from among the most outstanding and promising personalities, and testifies to the originality and creativity of our country. It was organised by the Bologna Children’s Book Fair/BolognaFiere, the Emilia-Romagna Region, and MAECI, and was set up in Dujiangyan by the Foreign Affairs Office of the City of Chengdu in collaboration with the local Consulate of Italy and the Dujiangyan municipal government authorities.

The works are on show in Yangtianwo Square,  a very popular tourist destination also  known as “Selfie Panda Square” in the city of Dujiangyan, home of the UNESCO site ‘Mount Qingcheng and Dujiangyan Irrigation System’, within the natural habitat of the Giant Panda. Together with the “Italian Excellences”  the exhibition includes the work of Italian photographer Francesco Tobia, who lives in China, and depicts the beauties of Italy and its most representative urban landscapes, as well as photographs of the town of Arezzo, which has signed a friendship pact with Dujiangyan.

The exhibition will be open until 3 October and will then  (from 8 to 29 October) be transferred to the Yongfeng Elementary School of Dujiangyan.

These shows are part of the “Chengdu-Europe Culture Season 2021” review, which is curated each year by the Foreign Affairs Office of the city of Chengdu and includes a series of cultural events free of charge with live concerts, film screenings, and art exhibitions aimed at intensifying cultural exchanges between Chengdu and the European countries. Italy is participating this year as Guest of Honour with a rich cultural schedule that forms part of the “Road to 2022” series of events in preparation for the Italy-China Year of Culture and Tourism.
