Algiers: theatrical performance in honour of Sciascia

On 7 October the Theatre of the Embassy of Italy in Algeria hosted a theatrical performance in honour of the writer Leonardo Sciascia, whose centenary is celebrated this year. The event was organised in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Algiers.

The performance, with theatrical scenes taken from the novel “The day of the owl”, was created and staged by students from the universities of Algiers and Blida under the guidance of the reader Annamaria Poeta. Abdellah Maasoum, professor of Italian literature at Alger 2 University, then opened a reflection on the concept of omertà in Sciascia’s novel.

The novel “The Council of Egypt” by Mouloud Bourenane, doctor of Italian literature at University of Algiers 2, was also discussed at the conference.
