Italy-Denmark, 160 years of diplomatic relations in an exhibition

This year, Italy and Denmark will celebrate the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1861-2021). In honor of this important event, from November 4 to December 4, 2021, the Italian Institute of Culture in Copenhagen is hosting an exhibition entitled “160 years of diplomatic relations between Italy and Denmark”, celebrating the birth of a solid bond of friendship and cooperation that has linked the two countries for over a century and a half.

On display will be documents, in particular, from the Historical Diplomatic Archive and Library of the Farnesina in which it is possible to trace crucial events in the history of the two countries, from the recognition of the Kingdom of Italy by the Kingdom of Denmark in 1861. The epoch that immediately followed, until 1866, was dense with events, such as the war of the Duchies and, in the context of the subsequent Austro-Prussian conflict, the third war of Italian independence.

The selection of documents also testifies to the cultural aspects that characterized the bond between the Danish people and the Italians in the period preceding 1861.
