Italy will be the guest of honor at the 2022 edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF), one of the top book fairs in the world for number of exhibitors (1600, from 83 countries) and number of volumes exhibited, but above all for number of agreements relative to sales of translation rights.
Italy’s participation in the cultural event was formally confirmed on November 13, 2021, by the Italian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Nicola Lener, and Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority. The agreement was signed in the presence of the Director of the Italian Institute of Culture, Ida Zilio-Grandi, and is the first step toward the creation of a rich program of initiatives that, in November 2022 will permit visitors to the SIBF to discover and more fully appreciate the multifaceted Italian culture.
Through lectures, theatrical performances, concerts, exhibitions and workshops, the Fair will be an opportunity to illustrate the genius, tradition and innovative capacity of Italy’s creative cultural industries.
Now in its fortieth edition, the SIBF boasts a vast international public, accompanied by representatives of the publishing supply chain, providing an exceptional opportunity to strengthen the institutional, cultural and economic ties between Italy and the United Arab Emirates.
