Sydney, a video on violence against women

SYDNEY
Sydney, un video sulla violenza contro le donne

On the occasion of the International Day against Violence against Women, celebrated on 25 November, the Italian Cultural Institute of Sydney presents a video entitled “25 November 2021” by multidisciplinary artist Emilia Persenico. It is an initiative that aims to raise awareness of a social problem sadly echoed in the international news with increasing frequency: gender violence.

The genesis of the short film starts by searching for male characters who do not feel belittled by the new female autonomy. They have, therefore, committed themselves in the first person by stating their name and surname and declaring that they are not violent. The work then continues with the involvement of the women who, in one sentence, underline what is essential for them: in short, the freedom to be themselves without being judged.

The result is a sort of dialogue between men and women within a deep space that recalls the house’s rooms.

“25 November 2021” will be published on the Institute’s social media to coincide with the anniversary on 25 November and will be featured continuously over the next 24 hours. The video will also be available on the Institute’s YouTube channel until 2 December included. A note on Associate Professor Giorgia Alù of the University of Sydney will accompany the video.
