Panama: Enel Green Power switches on two solar power installations

The Embassy of Italy in Panama took part at the switch-on of two solar power installations in the communities of Jagüito (Coclé province) and Esperanza (Chiriquí province) constructed by Enel Green Power (EGP), which is committed to developing renewable energy sources throughout Central America by investing in photovoltaic generation. For an investment of 30 million dollars, the two projects have a total capacity of 39.36 MW and an annual generation potential of 59.65 GWH, avoiding more than 35,400 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

Thus EGP confirms its vocation in promoting sustainable growth, involving local communities, providing training courses to local residents, promoting human resources, and managing good practice in climate action and decarbonisation. EGP Panama is that country’s largest generator in this technology with an installed capacity of 62 MW and plans to exceed 100 MW of photovoltaic capacity by the end of 2021. The plants inaugurated are in addition to the 300 MW Fortuna hydroelectric plant, the 12 MW Chiriquí solar photovoltaic plant and the solar photovoltaic complex comprising 42 MW Sol Real and 8 MW Estrella Solar.
