A preview of the photo exhibition on Nomadism, which will be held in Algiers, in the first half of 2022, was organised by the Italian Cultural Institute to celebrate the Contemporary Art Day. The exhibition, entitled “Eyes on tomorrow. Young Italian Photographers in the World” was presented at a conference (both in person and on Zoom) on 10 December, by Daniele De Luigi and Ilaria Campioli, who offered information on and illustrated the project.
“Eyes on Tomorrow. Young Italian Photographers in the World” is a project of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Municipality of Reggio Emilia dedicated to the international promotion of the most interesting research under way on the Italian art and photography scene. The project envisages a large-scale exhibition in eleven cities around the world – Addis Ababa, Algiers, Barcelona, Mexico City, Dublin, Valletta, Melbourne, Munich, Montevideo, Moscow and New Delhi – to showcase young emerging photography talents outside their national borders, whose works serve as an ideal linking between the five continents.
The reflection on Nomadism in Algiers was developed by Marina Caneve, Irene Fenara and Vaste Programme.
The thirty-nine young artists, selected by curators Ilaria Campioli and Daniele De Luigi, and entrusted with the task of representing Italian photography in the world, are a selection of the best artists on the Italian contemporary scene and come from the pool of artists who, over the years, have participated in Giovane Fotografia Italiana (Young Italian Photographers), the open call launched by the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, which has reached its ninth edition, dedicated to the discovery and promotion of emerging talents in photography, and which has succeeded in establishing itself as one of the most important events in the national art scene.
