A children’s book “Amali e l’albero” by Chiara Lorenzoni, with illustrations by Paolo Domeniconi, published in Italy by EDT, will be donated to very young students in schools in Laos. This initiative is part of a project promoted by the European Union Delegation, in which the Italian Embassy in Bangkok is participating, for the dissemination of illustrated books by European authors for children and young people in schools and libraries in Laos.
The initiative aims to promote reading by facilitating cultural exchange and awareness of sustainability issues. Ten countries (Austria, Cyprus, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal and Spain) joined the initiative by offering books mainly for children between the age of 7 and 12, with captivating illustrations and primarily focused on environmental issues. The ten books have been translated into Laotian by EUDEL, and 1,000 copies of each book have been printed. The volumes will be donated to the national and provincial libraries in the country, where children’s books are still few, and will also be given to urban and rural schools in Laos to make sure these resources are truly accessible and available for all. The initiative was presented in Vientiane in the presence of the Laotian Minister of Education, Phout Simmalavong, and representatives from the Ministries of Education, Environment, Culture, and Foreign Affairs.
