An exhibition on five decades of Italian contemporary art will open at the Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid on February 23. The exhibition “Traces/Huellas.Works from the Giorgio Persano Gallery 1971-2021,” curated by Giorgio Persano himself, will be open to the public until June 4. It exhibits about twenty works by Italian artists, ranging from the protagonists of the so-called “arte povera“, one of the main artistic currents of the 20th century, to the representatives of the new trends of contemporary art. The exhibition is organized under the aegis of the Italian Embassy in Spain.
“This extraordinary exhibition – the Director of the Cultural Institute, Marialuisa Pappalardo, said – is organized on the occasion of the International Contemporary Art Fair Arco 2022. Because of its history and uniqueness in the international art scene, the Italian gallery Giorgio Persano has been chosen by the Fair to celebrate its 40th anniversary (+1). The Cultural Institute has supported the Fair since its first edition, showing the works of Italian artists of different generations and movements, ranging from the so-calledarte povera to the transavantgarde, and the latest artistic trends, thus fostering dialogue with the art world in Spain.”
