A memorandum of understanding between two national circular bioeconomy associations was signed in recent days at the Italian Embassy in Paris. The two associations are Bioeconomy for Change (France) and Spring (Italy). The aim of the understanding is to strengthen cooperation between the two national ecosystems to support research and the industrialisation and marketing of “biobased” innovative ideas.

Ambassador Teresa Castaldo said that “signing this agreement constitutes a further important follow-up to the Quirinal Treaty” and that “the circular bioeconomy is one of the pillars of the green transition”. She added that “the cooperation that the members of the two organisations will directly initiate could become a reference model in other sectors of crucial importance for sustainable development, showcasing the world class excellence that the two countries can vaunt in these areas”.

The memorandum also calls for, inter alia, the establishment of a working group to determine the priority areas of interest, such as plastics.

The French cluster, Bioeconomy for Change, includes over 450 members (cooperatives, companies, universities, public authorities and investment funds) and works on issues linked to the production and showcasing of bio-resources (agriculture, forestry, marine resources or co-products and by-products). The Italian cluster, SPRING, works on the production and showcasing of bio-based resources, and includes about 130 members through the supply chain; it is a member of the National Bioeconomy Coordination Group established within the scope of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
