At the invitation of the Ruaha Catholic University (RUCU), the Ambassador of Italy in Tanzania, Marco Lombardi, visited Iringa, a region in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania, to discuss opportunities for collaboration between the RUCU and Italian universities, and in particular with the Catholic University of Brescia and those of Palermo and Turin.
During his mission, the Ambassador had a meeting with the Regional Commissioner, Queen Cuthbert Sendiga, with whom he took stock of the economic cooperation and illustrated the recent Italian industrial investment in Kyololo. Ambassador Lombardi visited the numerous projects of Italian Missions and Civil Society Organisations, in particular those of the CUAMM, the Community of Sant’Egidio, Co.Pe. and ASVET in the health sector, as well as those of the Consolata, CEFA, Nyumba Ali and Africa Chiama in the social, educational and agricultural fields. During the conference at the RUCU, the Ambassador also met the Bishop of Iringa, Monsignor Tarcisio Ngalalekumtwa, who wished to thank the CEI, the voluntary sector and the Italian Church as a whole for their huge contribution to the development of this area of Tanzania.
