The international exhibition “Domus Design – Tehran 2022” has been presented at the residence of the Ambassador of Italy in Iran.
The exhibition, now in its sixth edition, consists of two sections. The first is an in-depth look at key moments in the history of Italian and Iranian design through a series of iconic objects. It includes creations by Italian designers such as Gaetano Pesce, Alessandro Mendini, Enzo Mari, Ettore Sottsass and Michele De Lucchi. On the Iranian side it features unique pieces such as the “maquette” (model) for the Mashhad Engineering Company by Alireza Taghaboni; a metal and glass architectural element by Sara Kalantari; or the vibrant red zoomorphic dining suite by Kamran Naderi.
The second section is dedicated to Gio Ponti’s design for Villa Namazi in Tehran. It includes his original drawings for the project, from the “Pavone” light in brass and glass designed by the Italian architect for the villa’s central room and other pieces of furniture and decorative items designed by Ponti over the years. “This exhibition in Tehran has a double significance”, explained Ambassador Perrone during the opening event. “On the one hand, it recalls the important experiences of Italian architects and designers in Iran and their projects themselves, of such importance and significance to the subsequent history of architecture and design. And on the other, it re-establishes the role of Iran in the world of design”.
