On Saturday, 26th of March, the Italian Cultural Institute in Tunis will stage a monologue enriched with images and music, recited by Rabii Brahim, an actor of Tunisian descent, and directed by Anna Serlenga. The performance is titled “Gli Altri” (“The Others”) and deals with the perception of others. It is staged by Corps Citoyen, a multidisciplinary artistic group whose work is divided between Tunis and Milan.
The performance aims to offer food for thought, in an easy-going and light-hearted manner, on the stereotypes and clichés that also pervade the world of entertainment, in which the roles entrusted to Arab actors and actresses, or to actors of color cannot detach themselves too much from a few of rhetorically extremely stylized figures that perpetuate stereotypes: the drug dealer, the suicide bomber, and the prostitute. Therefore, “Gli Altri”, by mixing voices and points of view (by questioning several performers on video, as in a docufilm) attempts to reaffirm the right to a different narrative, also possible on stage.
