“Sinfonia”, an installation by Alessandro Sciaraffa, has been launched in Kazakhstan. The work was exhibited for the first time at the Turin Civic Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art. Now, thanks to the commitment of the Embassy of Italy in Nur Sultan, it has been transferred to the Foundation and Gallery TSE Art Destination, which celebrated the work and the artist with three days of events, including a lecture by Alessandro Sciaraffa.
“Sinfonia” is composed of a gong, a sound system, and a video projection on a reflective screen located in a dark room. It joins two of the fundamental themes in Sciaraffa’s work: the primitive sound of the gong and observing the aurora borealis, or northern lights.
Opening the exhibition, the Ambassador of Italy, Marco Alberti, observed that “with his works, the Torinese artist Alessandro Sciaraffa expresses the idea of art as a channel for a profound and spiritual connection between the individual and the universe, between the material and the spiritual. ‘Sinfonia’ is a multimedia expression of the evocative force of natural elements, which is keenly felt in Kazakhstan. At the same time, it explores the relationship with technology as a source of opportunities for expression”.
This project is also intended to strengthen the collaboration between Italian museums and the cultural world of the Kazakh capital, and to celebrate diplomatic relations between Italy and Kazakhstan, which in 2002 see their 30th anniversary. The exhibition, curated by Sara d’Alessandro Manozzo, will be open to visitors until 30 April in the premises of the Embassy of Italy.
