The Italian Cultural Institute in Amsterdam is promoting a series of conferences on trends in Italian and Dutch architecture, starting on 20 May, to compare the design of our cities.
The meetings are based on the theme launched by the Biennale Architettura di Venezia 2021, curated by Hashim Sarkis, entitled “How will we live together?”. In the context of growing political contradictions and economic inequalities, livability in cities around the world is an increasingly important issue which will be discussed by Italian and Dutch architects and experts during the four scheduled meetings.
The first event, called Habitat, will compare the design of neighbourhoods, residential and school buildings in Milan and Amsterdam. It will be followed by Re-set, on the transformation and renovation of public buildings in Turin and Amsterdam, and then Resilience, on water management and building on and underwater in Venice and Amsterdam. The last event is called Link It! and it is dedicated to the theme of mobility, with examples from Rome and Amsterdam. On the days following the events, a guided tour with Architect Paul Vlok from Architour will be offered to clarify and further explore the topics discussed.
