On the occasion of Italian Republic Day, the Italian Embassy in Buenos Aires handed out awards to the winners of the drawing contest “DISEGNIAMO L’ITALIA – L’architettura italiana a Buenos Aires”, aimed at students from Italian non-state schools in Buenos Aires. The drawings represented the most significant buildings in the Argentinian capital city designed or built by Italian architects and engineers, and aimed to promote knowledge of the architectural heritage and the values of collective memory.

During the Republic Day celebrations, Ambassador Fabrizio Lucentini reaffirmed that “76 years ago, after having lived through the horror of fascism and World War II, the Italian people – including women, for the first time – voted in favour of the Republic, choosing to build a society based on democracy, freedom and peace.” The Ambassador also highlighted that Republic Day is an opportunity to celebrate the “strong relationship of brotherhood” between Italy and Argentina; a bond that finds its roots in the presence of the largest Italian community abroad in Argentina and is strengthened by the very close relations created in every field between the two countries.

During the event, the Academic Orchestra of the Teatro Colón Art Institute, led by Maestro Marcelo Ayub, performed the Italian and Argentinian anthems, the Va Pensiero from Nabucco and the Brindisi from La Traviata.
