At the attendance of the Italian Ambassador in Madrid, Riccardo Guariglia, the installation “Mediterranea” was unveiled in the suggestive Museo del Mar de Santa Pola (near Alicante). It was created on commission of the Italian Embassy by designer Gianluca Pugliese, who was testimonial for the Italian Design Day 2022. Present at the inauguration on 14 July was also Mayor Loreto Serrano Pomares and the director of Casa Mediterráneo, Andrés Perelló.

Ambassador Guariglia said that the initiative “satisfies the Embassy’s aim to organise integrated cultural promotion activities across the whole Spanish territory and not only in Madrid or Barcelona”. He added that collaborating with one of Spain’s leading museums dedicated to the sea “is a reason of great satisfaction, also because it heralds further initiatives, first and foremost in the Municipality of Valencia and in partnership with Casa Mediterráneo, a prestigious institutions connected to the Spanish Foreign Ministry.”

The work, exposed in June in the Fuorisalone of Milan, was produced through the innovative 3D printing technique using bioplastics obtained from potato growing wastes and natural pigments. It represents a stylised wave and evokes the Mediterranean maritime landscape that reciprocally binds Italy and Spain. Among other things, the installation is located only a few kilometres from the Island of Tabarca, also known as the “Island of the Genoese”.
