The Italian Cultural Institute in Istanbul and the Tuscia University’s Studies and Restoration Mission in Cappadocia have organised the exhibition “Parlami, Terra! Medea in Cappadocia con Pasolini e Maria Callas”, to be staged from 10 September to 10 November 2022 at the Open Air Museum of Göreme and at Uçhisar Castle, in Cappadocia. The event celebrates the centenary of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s birth.

The inauguration in Uçhisar will be attended, among others, by Nadir Alpaslan, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey, Giorgio Marrapodi, Italy’s Ambassador to Turkey, and Salvatore Schirmo, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute.

In Cappadocia, in 1969, Pasolini filmed the first part of his film “Medea” – the character being portrayed by Maria Callas – in the areas of Göreme, Uçhisar, Ürgüp and Çavuşin.

The exhibition will showcase over 100 original images taken from the film frames, as if they were ‘paintings’ by Pasolini, as well as several historical black and white photographs taken by Mario Tursi on Pasolini’s film set, and contemporary authors’ stills of Cappadocia’s landscapes.

While enjoying the exhibition, visitors shall be accompanied by a network of didactic and communicative devices (in Turkish, Italian and English), the common thread being the many quotes taken from Pasolini’s spoken and written descriptions of Cappadocia.
