The Italian Ambassador in Santo Domingo, Stefano Queirolo Palmas, attended a lecture hosted a few days ago at the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), titled “Proximity Earthquakes: Lessons on the Role of Vertical Acceleration” delivered by Engineer Armando Simonelli from the University of Sannio (UNI-SANNIO), and chaired by Deputy Rector Radhamés Silverio. The event was attended by Ambassador Queirolo Palmas, the Dominican Minister of cHigher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT), Franklin García Fermín, and the Dominican Ambassador in Rome, Tony Raful.

In his contribution, the Italian Ambassador underscored “the importance of bilateral relations in cooperating in advanced research on seismic phenomena, which is liable to lead to further cooperative efforts in the field of civil protection, the mapping of national seismic hazards, and the new regulations for anti-seismic structures in cities located close to the fault following Italy’s innovative experience after the L’Aquila and Amatrice earthquakes”. The Dominican Ambassador in Rome, Tony Raful, recalled “the propulsive role of the two Embassies in fostering the development of this promising academic cooperation that is destined to draw the two Countries closer through a dialogue between experts that is crucial in preventing the loss of human lives and property in case of catastrophes.”
