With a programme of events ranging from writing to theatre technique, from traditional songs to opera music, and performance and acting lessons, the XXII Week of the Italian Language in the World has also kicked off in Ecuador. For the occasion, the Italian Embassy in Quito aims to involve young people as active protagonists in the evolution of language in the digital age.
The Week started with a concert dedicated to Italian opera at the Centro Cultural de la Pontificia Universidad Católica. It continues on 27 October with a spelling and hyphenation competition in the House of Ecuadorian Culture in Quito, open to all universities in the country where the Italian language is taught, also to make people think about the importance of respecting the integrity of the language when using new communication technologies.
On 29 October, in the capital city there will also be theatre and music performances with primary and secondary school students at the Alessandro Volta High School. On 28 October in Quito and 1 November in Guayaquil, the theatre performance to pay tribute to Pasolini, “Orestiade con cuore di donna” [The Oresteia with a woman’s heart], written by Giuseppina Norcia and staged by Gianluca Barbadori, will be on stage.
