A five-year partnership to support the sport of fencing was signed between the FPA Group, the holder of the Carmimari and ONTC Made-in-Italy technical brands, and the Singapore Fencing Federation. The aim is to promote this Olympic discipline in the Country in the perspective of creating the world’s first “Wimbledon of Fencing”.

The signing of the Agreement – at the attendance of Italian Ambassador Mario Vattani – was hosted in the important venue of Singapore’s Grand Prix Satellite at the OCBC Arena. The parties were represented by Francesco Rossi, CEO of the FPA Group, and David C.Y. Chen, Secretary General of Singapore Fencing. Present at the event was also the Speaker of the Singapore Parliament, Chuan-Jin Tan.

“We are very happy that Italy, through the initiative launched by a prestigious enterprise like Carmimari, is Singapore’s partner in contributing to engage so many of the City-State’s youths in the sport of fencing. On this occasion – Ambassador Vattani said – we see the opportunity of developing similar programmes with other Countries in the area, in line with our development partnership with the ASEAN, which envisages cooperating on health-related issues, including mental health”. According to Ambassador Vattani, “after the pandemic-induced restrictions, fencing now represents an excellent educational tool to forge personalities and character and to develop freedom of expression, and a testbench for our capacities, both physical and mental.”

The partnership arises from the aim of creating a synergy between the two aspects. In a long-term perspective, the aim is to establish a fully-fledged “Wimbledon of Fencing” to support the promotion of the Olympic discipline – traditionally a hotbed for Italian fencers – throughout Asia. Instead, on the short term, Singapore’s interest is focused on building a programme aimed at putting the Country at the top of international fencing events; for the FPA, the aim is to strategically expand the Carmimari brand in foreign markets.
