A Memorandum of Understanding for a strategic partnership between the Region of Lombardy and the State of Victoria, in Australia, was signed in Milan by the President of the Region of Lombardy, Attilio Fontana and by the Governor of the State of Victoria, Linda Dessau.
The MoU aims to provide depth to a strategic partnership for sustainable economic recovery and growth, waste management and circular economy, agriculture and food industries, the defense and aerospace sectors, cultural and creative industries, sport, professional training, and advanced technological studies. The MoU was signed following an intense activity to strengthen institutional, economic, and commercial relations between the Region of Lombardy and the State of Victoria, promoted and supported by the Italian Embassy in Canberra and by the Italian Consulate General in Melbourne.
The MoU, “recognising the importance that the Parties attribute to promoting dialogue and collaboration as key to boosting sustainable growth and competitiveness, and sharing a common interest in strengthening institutional relations – pursuant to the outcome of the institutional mission by the Region of Lombardy to Australia in September 2019 – aims to foster meetings and the reciprocal exchange of knowledge between agencies, companies, and associations active in the reciprocal fields of interest.”
“Our objective – said President Fontana – is to promote institutional, political, and planning initiatives to encourage knowledge, best practices, and the exchange of information in sectors of reciprocal interest, starting from innovation and economic recovery and growth.” Governor Dessau replied: “The manufacturing sector, the circular economy, technological innovation, as well as design and creative industries are the fields in which we know we can start a close collaboration. The Agreement signed is only the first important step to open an extended and strong partnership which can certainly give rise to great opportunities for the economic development of the State of Victoria and of Lombardy.” The Partnership between the Region of Lombardy and the State of Victoria starts from the consolidated twinning between the cities of Milan and Melbourne, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2024.
