In view of the approaching end of his mandate, the Italian Ambassador to Thailand, Lorenzo Galanti, had a telephone conversation with Thai Prime Minister, Prayut Chan-o-cha, to take stock of Italy-Thailand relations in the field of security, science, technology, and medicine. Indeed, 2022 marks the 154th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two Countries.
They both reaffirmed their commitment to cooperate in all aspects of economic promotion and sustainable development. Ambassador Galanti confirmed that Italy will support Thailand’s candidacy to hold the Chairmanship of the next meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to be held in Bangkok in November, in the hope that the event will benefit all the Countries in the region and promote sustainable economic growth. “Italy – Ambassador Galanti added – will also contribute to organizing the first ASEAN-European Union Summit in Brussels”.
On his part, the Thai Prime Minister thanked the Ambassador for the participation of Italian companies at the Defense & Security Forum 2022 held in August, which showcased the Country’s latest technological breakthroughs in the defence sector, and expressed his satisfaction at the drafting of the first EU-Thailand Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) in September, which will be used as a roadmap for the positive progress of EU-Thailand relations in the years to come.
