The Consulate General of Italy in New York will host today, on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the traditional ceremony of the Reading of the Names of Jews deported from Italy and Italian territories.

The initiative is part of a calendar of events promoted by the Consulate General and, among others, the Primo Levi Centre, the Italian Cultural Institute, NYU’s Casa Italiana Zerilli Marimò and Columbia University’s Italian Academy for Advanced Studies in America to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and preserve the memory of those tragic events.

As part of the many events offered, a seminar on Giorgio Bassani, introduced by the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute of New York, Professor Fabio Finotti, together with Paola Bassani, President of the Giorgio Bassani Foundation; a conversation with Katharina von Schnurbein, European Commission Coordinator on Combating Antisemitism and Fostering Jewish Life; and the world premiere of the concert “Piombo”, inspired by Primo Levi’s collection of short stories “The Periodic Table”, curated by Luciano Chessa (on piano) and performed together with legendary cellist Frances-Marie Uitti.
