The 7th edition of the Italian Design Day in Hong Kong was held in collaboration with the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) – one of the leading Asian institutions of higher education in design and creative industries – and the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED). The companies Goppion S.p.A. and Pagani Automobili were also involved.

Professor Giovanni Ottonello, architect and art director at IED, held a workshop on “Enlightening quality. The energy of design for people and environment”, focusing on the future of design by looking at new trends and asking the students who took part in the workshop to develop projects and visions consistent with contemporary themes. Professor Ottonello then held a seminar in the presence of professionals in the sector (university professors, architects and local designers), highlighting the function of design as a tool for conveying messages of social impact.

Presentations by Goppion (a leading manufacturer of museum display cases) and Pagani Automobili (a leading global manufacturer of custom-built vehicles) underlined the role of Made in Italy, visually reinforced by the display of the Zonda Oliver Evo Roadster car in the Institute’s courtyard. The IDD was the first event in a programme of initiatives that the Hong Kong Design Institute has planned for the year dedicated to Italy and which will include activities related to four target sectors: design, fashion, communication and architecture.
