Over the past few days, the Italian Embassy in Beijing and the Italian Trade Agency – ICE have organised the “I Love Italian Olive Oil” event, dedicated to the promotion of Italian olive oil in China.
A delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry arrived in Beijing for the occasion, composed of three experts – ICQRF Director General Emilio Gatto, Paolo Tolomei and Stefania Carpino – who illustrated the peculiarities of the Italian olive oil traceability system. The event continued with a lecture by Robert Woo on the organoleptic and qualitative characteristics of Italian olive oil and a guided tasting of five oils from as many Italian regions.
Italy is the only country to have signed a bilateral agreement with the Chinese Academy of Inspection and Quarantine, in order to guarantee the traceability of Italian oil along the entire supply chain, by means of a specific QR Code on the label. The aforementioned Italy-China traceability system, from producer to consumer, contributes to strengthening the presence of quality Italian products on the Chinese market, protecting the authenticity and origin of the product, thus enhancing one of the excellences of Made in Italy agrifood products.
