The book L’influenza italiana nel patrimonio architettonico di Buenos Aires (The Italian influence in the architectural heritage of Buenos Aires) is now available online and can be downloaded free of charge by clicking HERE. Leafing through the pages of the book, promoted by the Italian Embassy in Buenos Aires, it will be possible to take a walk through some of the most emblematic buildings in the Argentine capital designed by Italian architects and engineers.
This book aims to make a wide audience aware of a particular aspect of the Italian presence in Argentina: architecture, one of the countless facets of the historical ties that unite the two countries. As workers, technicians, designers and architects, Italians in Argentina have made a decisive contribution in this field, indelibly marking the Argentine capital with an Italian imprint and leaving behind some of its most significant symbols.
The idea for the book came about after the success of the drawing competition “DISEGNIAMO L’ITALIA – L’architettura italiana a Buenos Aires” (DRAWING ITALY – Italian architecture in Buenos Aires), organised by the Italian Embassy in Buenos Aires on the occasion of Italian Republic Day on 2 June 2022. The competition saw over 300 pupils from Italian state-recognised private schools in the Consulate General of Italy’s district in Buenos Aires compete in drawing the most representative buildings in the Argentine capital designed or built by Italian architects and engineers. This is another reason why the best works of the competition enrich the pages of the volume, which is organised in three historical sections and leads the reader to discover the contribution made by fifteen Italian authors to twenty-one architectural gems in Buenos Aires.
