Once again this year, on the initiative of the Italian Embassy in Prague, a commemoration ceremony was held at the Italian Military Cemetery in Milovice, where 5,276 Italian soldiers and soldiers of other nationalities who fell in the Czech Republic during the two World Wars are buried.

During the celebration, flower wreaths were laid at the foot of the war memorial. The military band of the Prague Garrison Command performed the Italian patriotic song La canzone del Piave and the Italian and Czech national anthems. The ceremony ended with the recital of the “Soldier’s Prayer” by Vincenzo D’Alfonzo, a Carabiniere serving at the Italian Embassy.

The ceremony was attended by Ambassador Mauro Marsili, the President of the Interparliamentary Friendship Group between the Czech Republic and Italy, Vojtěch Munzar, the Director of the Regional Military Command in Prague and member of the Security Council, Roman Tkačík, the President of A. R. Mi. – Association of Remembrance of the Fallen from Milovice and member of the board of directors of the Union of Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic, Svetozar Plesnik, the President of the Czech Republic COMITES – Committee of Italians Abroad, Roberto Massa, and a delegation of Alpine soldiers coordinated by the Belluno and Conegliano Sections.

The celebrations continued with a guided tour of the city’s military museum and a Holy Mass in the Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria.
