The Italian Embassy in Manama, in cooperation with the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA), hosted on Wednesday 4 October at the Cultural Hall in Manama the concert “A Tribute to Ennio Morricone: Oscar Film Scores”, performed by “Il Quintetto” on the occasion of the 32nd Bahrain International Music Festival.

Il Quintetto paid tribute to one of the greatest film score composers of the 20th century, “Maestro” Ennio Morricone (1928-2020), with whom the artists of Il Quintetto had the honour of collaborating throughout their careers.

Il Quintetto performed twelve musical compositions created by Maestro Morricone for a number of famous films, including Cinema Paradiso (1988), The Mission (1986), Once Upon a Time in the West (1968), A Fistful of Dollars (1964), The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966), The Legend of 1900 (1998) and Once Upon a Time in America (1984).

The theatre was “sold out” and the event was attended by many distinguished guests, including the President of BACA, Sheikh Khalifa bin Ahmed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, representatives of institutions and embassies accredited in Bahrain, representatives of civil society, including students from the “Grazia Deledda” Centre for Italian Language and Culture, and of the Italian community resident in the country.

The Bahrain International Music Festival,” said Italian Ambassador Paola Amadei, “is an event that brings together musicians from all over the world and is a testament to Bahrain’s openness to cultural diversity and its strong interest in art. It is always a pleasure to stage masterpieces of Italian music, such as the award-winning scores composed by the great Maestro Ennio Morricone, and to record such a high level of participation in our events, proof of the continued appreciation and interest expressed by the Bahraini community towards our country”.
