The Italian diplomatic-consular network in Argentina was among those promoting targeted initiatives on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and within the framework of the “Orange The World” awareness campaign promoted by the United Nations and joined by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its network abroad at the suggestion of Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani.

The initiatives included the three-stage tour “Tosca Quintet in concerto” – promoted by the Consulates General of Italy in Buenos Aires, Cordoba and Bahia Blanca – which saw the famous Italian singer and actress Tosca, with the participation of Argentine singer and songwriter Teresa Parodi, present a show created specifically for the “Orange The World” campaign and to be performed at three theatres: the Teatro Municipal in Bahia Blanca (24 November), the Teatro Coliseo in Buenos Aires (25 November) and the Teatro del Libertador San Martín in Cordoba (26 November). As of 1 December, the concert will be available online for free on the YouTube channels of the Consulate General of Italy in Buenos Aires and the Teatro Coliseo.

As part of its all-round commitment, the Consulate General of Italy in Buenos Aires, in collaboration with the Gender and Diversity Committee of “Asociación Argentina de Empresarios Teatrales” – AADET (Argentine Association of Theater and Musical Entrepreneurs) and the Teatro Coliseo, also promoted the first edition of “Música y Mujeres”, an event consisting of two round tables with the participation of artists, managers, professionals and representatives of organisations in the sector from both countries, which focused on the role of women in the live music industry in Argentina and the contribution provided by Italy’s experience, analysing progress, opportunities and challenges on a professional and working level. The Consulate General in Buenos Aires also broadcast a special episode of the weekly online programme “Attualità italiana”. It featured an interview with Loredana Cornero, Secretary General of Comunità Radiotelevisiva Italofona (Italian-speaking Broadcasting Community), and author and producer expert in gender issues and women’s empowerment.

The Consulate General of Italy in Bahia Blanca, whose premises were lit up in orange as part of the “Orange The World” campaign, also organised, together with the Secretariat for Social and Gender Policies of the Municipality of Bahia Blanca, a press conference in preparation for the “Tosca Quintet in concerto” show, aimed at highlighting Italy’s efforts to protect and promote women’s rights and to fight against all forms of discrimination and gender-based violence.

Finally, orange lights also lit up the building of the Consulate General of Italy in Cordoba, which promoted, together with the Ministry of Women of the Province of Cordoba, the clothing donation campaign entitled “Guapas somos. Elegite y vestite con actitud” for women who are victims of violence and in a vulnerable situation.
