The Italian Ambassador to Spain, Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi, with secondary accreditation in the Principality of Andorra, visited the Pyrenean State on the occasion of the National Day celebrations. He was received by Foreign Minister Imma Tor Faus and attended an extraordinary session of the Consell General (Andorra’s unicameral Parliament), open to the diplomatic corps and civil authorities.

Ambassador Buccino Grimaldi and Minister Imma Tor Faus later signed an agreement on the mutual conversion of driving licences. The conclusion of this agreement, which will have a positive impact on the daily lives of Italian and Andorran citizens, came after 13 years of negotiations.

The Ambassador and the Minister then moved to the Palau del Gel of the Municipality of Canillo, where there was the finissage of the photographic exhibition “Italian Routes”, organised by the Italian Embassy in Madrid in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Principality of Andorra and the Municipality of Canillo. This exhibition was inaugurated on 22 February, in the presence of the Honorary Consul in Andorra, Alberto Rossi, and the Municipal Councillor for Tourism, Àlex Kinchella. Thanks to the marvellous photographic images of the Alpine Arc, curated by the landscape photographer, Fabiano Ventura, from the non-profit Association Macromicro, the Andorran public could appreciate the beauty of the mountain territory, as well as the values that this environment brings and the importance of climate change awareness.

Later, in the auditorium of Palau del Gel, a conference was held by architect Claudio Larcher, who was chosen by the Italian Embassy in Madrid as the Italian testimonial to celebrate – for the first time also in the Principality of Andorra – the Italian Design Day (IDD), a periodic event promoted worldwide by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, now in its eighth edition. During the lecture by architect Larcher, dedicated to “Design at High Altitude”, some design objects related to mountaineering were illustrated.
