To mark International Women’s Day, the Italian Embassy in Berlin hosted the third edition of the “Italiane in Germania” (Italian women in Germany) series, an initiative designed to enhance and promote the role of the many Italian women professionals who work in Germany and contribute to the intense bilateral relations between the two countries in their respective fields. After a first evening dedicated to science in 2022 and the last edition dedicated to art, yesterday evening focused on the theme of communication.
Moderated by Barbara Gruden, RAI’s correspondent in Berlin, Isabella Bufacchi, correspondent for Il Sole 24 ore, Mara Gergolet, correspondent for Corriere della Sera, Cristina Giordano, freelance journalist for the COSMO programme of the WDR broadcaster, Valentina Patrizia Maceri, sports reporter and former German-Italian footballer, and Giulia Saudelli, journalist for Deutsche Welle, discussed the topic of gender equality.
“There are numerous correspondents of Italian national newspapers in Berlin, as well as Italian journalists and reporters working in German-speaking media or Italian-speaking media in Germany. We wish to pay tribute to all these female professionals who every day, with their work, bring Italy and Germany closer together, providing a feminine view of society. This evening is dedicated to them,” said Ambassador Armando Varricchio.
The evening was attended by two special guests: Frigate Captain Catia Pellegrino, Commander of the Italian Navy vessel Luigi Rizzo and the first woman in the history of the Italian Navy to take command of a naval vessel; and director and actress Paola Cortellesi, who is touring Germany to promote her debut film “There’s Still Tomorrow”. Following the event, Ambassador Varricchio attended the premiere of the film in Berlin, the first stop on the tour. After the screening of the film, which received a standing ovation from the audience, the director spoke with German actress Natalie Wörner, also answering questions from the many Italians and Berliners gathered to see the successful film.
