As part of the celebrations for the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Costa Rica, the Italian Embassy in San José published a guide – “Little Pieces of Italy in Costa Rica” (Huellas de Italia en Costa Rica) – to shed light on Italy’s influence on the country.
It is a fascinating journey through Italian gems found in San José and throughout Costa Rica. Places, monuments and works of art created by Italians or inspired by Italy bear witness to Italy’s influence on this distant, yet in many respects very close land.
The history of Italy’s influence on Costa Rica is fascinating and often little known. Over the centuries, numerous Italians have made their way there, bringing with them their culture, talent and passion. Through the pages of this book, their contributions and the traces they left in the very fabric of Costa Rican society are revealed.
