A symbol to bear witness to the fight against gender violence: on 20 September, the Italian Embassy in Sarajevo inaugurated a Red Bench in its premises, in memory of the empty place left in society by victims of gendercide.

At the brief inauguration ceremony, besides Ambassador Marco Di Ruzza and the Embassy staff, the Representative in Bosnia-Herzegovina of UN Women, Jo-Anne Bishop, was present. Thanks to the partnership with the UN agency, on the same day the Embassy could screen the movie There’s Still Tomorrow’ by Paola Cortellesi, which had already opened the last Italian Cinema Days in Bosnia Herzegovina, at the Cineplexx in Sarajevo.

The “Red Bench” initiative in the Italian Embassies was launched by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, on 8 March last, as part of the Foreign Ministry’s commitment to opposing all forms of violence and discrimination against women, in Italy and worldwide.
