The Embassy of Italy in Bahrain, in cooperation with the Art Concept Gallery in Manama, organised the exhibition “The Soul’s Habitats” by Margherita Verdi, a well-known contemporary artist and photographer on the Italian and international scene.
The exhibition – held on the occasion of the 20th edition of the Contemporary Art Day – was opened by the Italian Ambassador, Andrea Catalano, who seized the opportunity to emphasise the excellence of the Italian art scene and the talent of many young artists as a driving force in the social, economic and cultural development of our country, with internationally renowned exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale.
The Ambassador said: “Considering the over 100,000 monuments and museums in Italy, every two years, on the occasion of the Venice Biennale, millions of artists and visitors come to enjoy the splendour of Italian contemporary art, a new genre in Italy’s cultural landscape, a genre that is sometimes complex and intriguing and provides multiple interpretations to viewers”.
He added: “This is the reason why today we are celebrating the 20th edition of the Contemporary Art Day, feeling the need to rethink the art system; promoting greater awareness of its importance; developing greater sensitivity; and breaking down all cultural, sensory or intellectual barriers. Hence the importance of inclusion and accessibility as central themes of this edition.”
Following in the footsteps of inclusion and accessibility, the exhibition is in fact the culmination of the stylistic and expressive research of the artist, Margherita Verdi, presenting photographs based on an introspective look at religious places, cathedrals, mosques and synagogues from the largest European cities to the smallest and most characteristic Italian villages, where, in the words of the artist, “regardless of the religious cult practised there, there is an aura, a soul that unites them.“
