Italian Ambassador Carlo Baldocci took part in the opening of Art Week Riyadh “At the edge”, the first edition of the event dedicated to contemporary art, which was curated by Artistic Director Vittoria Matarrese, and immediately gained public and critical acclaim.
A week dedicated to contemporary art that also speaks Italian thanks to the production of the event by the Italian company Black Engineering – already known in Saudi Arabia for important projects such as the Biennale of Islamic Art in Jeddah, which is still in progress – and the participation of Galleria Continua from San Gimignano (with offices in Beijing, Cuba and Paris, among others) present with some iconic works.
During the meeting with Ambassador Baldocci, Artistic Director Vittoria Matarrese said: “‘For the first Art Week in Riyadh, I imagined a curatorial landscape that would put the Saudi art scene in dialogue with a selection of international voices, foundations, galleries and private collections. A project conceived between history and future, where local practices and international perspectives intertwine to explore the horizon as a space of possibilities.”
“Art is a strategic pillar of the partnership between Italy and Saudi Arabia, as also demonstrated by some significant agreements signed last January in AlUla, on the margins of our Prime Minister’s visit” – Ambassador Baldocci said to Princess Adua al Saud, patroness of the event destined to arouse great interest on the international art scene.
