The 37th edition of the Turin International Book Fair concluded on 19 May, marking the third consecutive year of participation by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The rich programme of events under the banner #FarnesinaalSalone, held within the MAECI Pavilion and visited by thousands over the course of the fair, showcased the daily work of the Italian Foreign Ministry on global issues, as well as its support for Italian businesses and citizens abroad.
The opening event of the MAECI Pavilion, attended by former World Cup champion Gigi Buffon, highlighted the Italian Foreign Ministry’s initiatives in sports diplomacy, particularly in view of the upcoming Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics in 2026.
Encounters with acclaimed writers such as Michele Masneri, Nadia Terranova, and Federica Manzon – recipients of prestigious national literary awards – underscored the Ministry’s efforts to promote Italian literature abroad, through its translation grant schemes and support for participation in major international publishing fairs.
A major highlight was the panel featuring Prosecutor of Naples, Nicola Gratteri, who, in a packed venue, emphasised the importance of international cooperation in judicial matters and the pivotal role of the Ministry in legal diplomacy.
Participation in the Book Fair also provided a valuable platform to reaffirm the Ministry’s commitment to promoting the Italian language abroad. This includes the ItalYOU scholarship programme, carried out in collaboration with the University for Foreigners of Perugia, in the year of the first International Conference on Italian Language, promoted by Minister Tajani.
Once again, the Italian Foreign Ministry’s presence at the Book Fair proved to be a powerful opportunity to introduce the wider public to the multifaceted work of Italy’s diplomatic service, while fostering new partnerships and strengthening existing ones in the publishing industry – the country’s leading cultural sector – and, more broadly, in the field of culture.
