Just days before Italy’s Republic Day celebrations on 2 June, Faber GmbH — general importer for the Piaggio Group in Austria — presented the Italian Embassy in Vienna with a customised Vespa. The model is decorated with the Italian tricolour, the emblem of the Italian Republic, and the Embassy’s logo. The handover ceremony took place on 20 May at Palais Metternich, in the presence of Ambassador Giovanni Pugliese and Josef Faber, CEO of Faber GmbH.
For over seventy years, the Vespa — a true ambassador of Made in Italy — has been a symbol of style, innovation, and quality, and is highly valued and loved in Austria as well. Renowned worldwide, it is more than just a vehicle; it is a cultural icon that has spanned generations and borders, embodying the creativity, ingenuity, and craftsmanship so typical of Italy — qualities well known and sought after by Austrians in their lifestyle choices.
“With its unmistakable design and rich history, the Vespa tells the story of an Italy that loves to travel — blending tradition and innovation, and sharing Italian style and genius with different cultures,” said Ambassador Giovanni Pugliese during the handover ceremony. “It is an honour to receive it so close to 2 June, the date on which we celebrate the birth of the Republic and the core values of our national identity”.
“I am extremely proud that the Italian Embassy will use our Vespa for representational purposes. Nothing embodies the Italian way of life better than this vehicle, which for generations has been — and continues to be — a trusted companion in the pursuit of individual freedom. Our company has been a partner of Piaggio for over 60 years, and we have always maintained excellent relations with the Italian Embassy in Vienna,” said Josef Faber, CEO of Faber GmbH.
The vehicle will be used by the Italian diplomatic mission for a period of two years, thanks to a concession from Faber GmbH, particularly during institutional events and initiatives promoting Italy’s many areas of excellence.
