New food aid for the Palestinian civilian population under the “Food for Gaza” initiative

A new convoy of food aid under the “Food for Gaza” programme is currently departing from Jordan en route to the Gaza Strip. The convoy comprises 20 trucks operated by the World Food Programme, loaded with aid purchased using Italian funds. The shipment includes over 350 tonnes of flour, destined for the civilian population in Gaza. An additional convoy is also scheduled for the beginning of next week.

These new Italian contributions are part of the allocation approved last week during a meeting chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani at the Farnesina. The convoy is expected to cross the border into the West Bank tomorrow, before continuing towards the northern border between Israel and Gaza.

Preparations are also underway for airdrops of further humanitarian aid, in coordination with the Ministry of Defence. A shipment carrying a further 100 tonnes of humanitarian supplies is due to arrive tomorrow at Fiumicino Airport. From there, it will be transported to Jordan, where – in agreement with the Israeli government – the authorities have provided air corridors and identified safe drop zones.
