Undersecretary Tripodi concludes growth diplomacy mission to Uruguay, in line with the EU–Mercosur Agreement

The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Maria Tripodi, has concluded her growth diplomacy mission to Uruguay.

In 2024, trade between Italy and Uruguay reached EUR 776 million. In the first eleven months of 2025, Italian exports also recorded significant growth, confirming the dynamism of the bilateral economic relationship.

The Undersecretary chaired a roundtable in Montevideo with representatives from Uruguay’s main public and private economic and productive sectors, together with a selected delegation of Italian entrepreneurs.

On that occasion, Tripodi presented the “Guide to Opportunities for Italian Companies – 2026 Edition”. The Undersecretary subsequently held a series of bilateral meetings with the Minister of Education and Culture, José Carlos Mahía, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mario Lubetkin and the Minister of Economy and Finance, Gabriel Oddone.

The discussions focused on strengthening cultural relations, cooperation in the field of scientific research, as well as key international political issues, trade, investment and the further development of economic cooperation, also facilitated by the EU–Mercosur Agreement.
