Undersecretary Tripodi’s mission to Paraguay – political relations, investment opportunities and consular and cultural issues

The Italian Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, has been in Paraguay since yesterday. She will conclude her mission to Latin America there.

In Asunción, she had a meeting with the Paraguayan Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs Victor Verdun and Trade Rodrigo Maluff, with whom she discussed the main topics on the bilateral agenda, including political relations, consular and cultural issues, as well as relations with the European Union, global issues, and the main international crisis scenarios. A fruitful exchange of views took place on trade relations and mutual investment opportunities, with a special focus on defence and civil aviation cooperation.

On the sidelines, the Undersecretary signed the Action Plan on Tourism with Paraguayan Minister Angie Duarte, also in view of the flow of tourists and believers connected with the Jubilee. During the mission, Undersecretary Tripodi met with representatives of the Italian community living in Paraguay.

“With the last leg in Asunción, another productive Latin American mission comes to a close, following Italian Deputy Prime Minister Tajani’s recent visit to Argentina and Brazil. The Italian government has shown concretely that the strengthening of relations between Italy and Latin American countries is a priority whose solid foundations also lie in the constant political presence in the region,” commented the Undersecretary, who added, “in just two years, we have given new impetus to bilateral relations, focusing on economic diplomacy, investment, cooperation, and legal diplomacy, and have signed memoranda of understanding in various fields, in addition to holding several political consultations in numerous countries. We are also preparing a major Italy-Latin America conference, scheduled to take place in Rome in 2025, with the direct involvement of Latin American members.”
