The Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, visited the exhibition “Rome: Empire, Power, People” at the Melbourne Museum on May 9, accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, Richard Marles, the Speaker of the House, Milton Dick, and the Premier of the State of Victoria, Jacinta Allan.

Welcome to the exhibition by Ambassador Nicola Lener and Consul General Chiara Mauri, along with the Heads of the Organizing Body (Museums Victoria), the Prime Minister admired the extraordinary selection of artifacts from the collections of the National Roman Museum and the Archaeological Museum of Florence.

The exhibition, organized with the assistance of Contemporanea Progetti and the support of Italian institutions in Melbourne, is an unprecedented event on the Australian cultural scene: for the first time, over 160 original artifacts and archaeological masterpieces left Italy to tell the extraordinary history of the Roman Empire to the Australian public.

The Prime Minister’s visit reaffirmed the extraordinary importance attached to the exhibition, also on an institutional level, and was a strong sign of attention to the role played by Italy and its culture, conveyed also through the crucial contribution of Italians in Australia
