The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, met today in Rome with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, Alexandra Papadopoulou.
The meeting confirmed the excellent state of bilateral relations and the shared determination to further strengthen the strategic partnership between Rome and Athens, building on the outcomes achieved during the Second Italy-Greece Intergovernmental Summit of 12 May 2025 and on the positive cooperation initiatives already launched in the fields of energy, defence and infrastructure.
Extensive discussions were devoted to an overview of bilateral relations, including an exchange of views on continued support for Ukraine and on the issue of European Union enlargement, with particular attention to the Western Balkans. The two Deputy Ministers also held a wide-ranging exchange of views on the main regional dossiers concerning the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean. Within the broader framework of strengthening economic and trade relations, the two Deputy Ministers examined in particular the issue of cooperation in the field of defence.
