The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edmondo Cirielli, travelled to Tbilisi on an official visit to meet with local authorities and leading figures from the opposition parties in order to continue discussions on items on the bilateral agenda and on key political and economic issues.
The visit marks a continuity with the balanced approach towards Georgia, despite the challenges facing the country internally and in its relations with the European Union, most recently evident in the reactions to certain laws deemed by the domestic opposition and the European Union to be potentially detrimental to fundamental rights and freedoms.
Deputy Minister Cirielli was received by Prime Minister Kobakhidze, Foreign Minister Botchorishvili and the Mayor of Tbilisi, Kaladze.
The primary objective of the mission was to encourage a constructive dialogue, grounded in democratic values, amongst the various political groups in Georgia, with a view to resuming Tbilisi’s path towards Euro-Atlantic integration.
The Deputy Minister reiterated Italy’s firm and unwavering support for the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty within its internationally recognised borders, before going on to highlight their shared support for Ukraine.
