The exhibition “Mishima – Pasolini. Indizi per un confronto. Senza tacere e senza abbassare lo sguardo (Yukio Mishima and Pier Paolo Pasolini: Clues for a Confrontation— Without Silence, Without Looking Away) has been inaugurated at the Exhibition Hall of the Italian Cultural Institute in Tokyo. The exhibition is promoted by the Ministry of Culture, the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome and SUAZES, under the patronage of the Embassy of Italy in Tokyo, Yamanakako Municipality and the Yamanakako Municipality’s Education Council, and in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Tokyo, the Yamanakako Forest Park of Literature and the Mishima Yukio Literary Museum.

The exhibition presents a unique dialogue between Yukio Mishima and Pier Paolo Pasolini, two leading figures on the international cultural scene of the second half of the 20th century, united by an artistic and intellectual research which, whilst originating in literature, extended to cinema, theatre, visual arts, aesthetic reflection, journalism and engagement in public debate.

The project is based on an idea by Marco Minuz and is curated by Professor Roberto Carnero for the section on Pasolini and by Professor Sato Hideaki, Director of the Mishima Yukio Literary Museum, for the section on the Japanese author. The opening night was also attended by Mario Andrea Vattani, the Ambassador of Italy to Tokyo, and Luca Marini, the acting Attaché of the Italian Cultural Institute in Tokyo.
